General Information
Being a P-12 College provides many advantages, one of the main advantages is that the Year 6 students are ensured automatic acceptance into the Secondary School.
Graduating from Primary School and beginning Secondary School is a major change for a young person and although exciting, it can also be quite daunting. To support each student in this adjustment phase, Heritage College offers a transistion year for Year 7 students.
Students are fortunate to have continuity of location as Year 7 are located at the Narre Warren Campus. Students are already aware of the position of classrooms, met most of the teachers previously and have developed relationships with most of their fellow students.
Year 7 students have a home room teacher that teaches a group of their subjects (e.g. English, Maths and Religious Studies). This eases the phase of moving from a Primary School situation of one teacher to many teachers - and changing each period. The homeroom teacher is a constant for the students, and acts as a mentor.
In addition, one period per week is allocated to a class called Transition. These classes are ungraded and specifically aimed to assist the student settle into the demands of Secondary School. Activities include things such as: reading your timetable, study skills, referencing, social and team building activities, setting goals and managing time and much more.
